Pick-up is at Chembe Village Project Centre, Cape Maclear. A private vehicle can be provided at an agreed price although the distance between each project is only a few minutes so within easy walking distance. If travelling from Mangochi, Monkey Bay or elsewhere then please organise transport through The Responsible Safari Company.
NB: Trip time and drop off location may change and this will be communicated prior to the trip. Please note tour times and days may vary.
Cancellation policy
If you wish to cancel or amend your booking The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. will make every effort to assist you. Requests for amendment or cancellation must be in writing, and confirmed by the same individual as on the original confirmation. Amendments received and made 60 days before departure will incur an amendment charge of £40 per booking, plus any communication charge or other expenses incurred by The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. If you cancel your booking, the following general scale of cancellation charges will be payable based on the number of days prior to departure that written notice of cancellation is received at our office.
Prior to 84 days forfeiture of deposit
- 83 - 60 days prior 40% of total Travel price
- 60 - 30 days prior 75% of total Travel price
- 29 - 7 days prior 90% of total Travel price
- Less than 7 days 100% of total Travel price
Cape Maclear Chembe Community Project
Chembe Water Project is a community based project that ensures the provision of safe drinking water to lakeside communities especially those in Cape Maclear, Mangochi.
HIV/AIDS Community Project is run by two Malawian brothers with help from community volunteers. They provide home based care and education for the community.
There is an active Environmental Awareness and Education Initiative at one end of the village which is trying to education the local community to look after the diversity of fish with Lake Malawi. They run art classes, community workshops and provide local dive training for community members (see education diving tours).
If coming from Blantyre, you will arrive at Chembe Village by 11:00; if coming from Lilongwe, you will arrive at Chembe Village by 12noon. After lunch at Geckho Lounge (not included in cost) you will meet a community guide who will spend the afternoon taking you around this lakeside community and showing you the different projects.
NB A community lunch can be arranged as well as helping out at the particular projects for example making recycled paper cards, homebased care and working the community garden.
