Every area of Malawi has a budget option but there are some fantastic places that we think you should definately make sure you visit! Here are our Top Five Budget Places to Stay in Malawi.
1. Lukwe Eco-Camp, Livingstonia- Book Now!
Cheap, incredible views, really friendly owners- easy walk to Livingstone Mission. Our favourite place to stay in Livingstonia!
Travel Tip: Bus from Karonga/Mzuzu to Livingstonia turnoff- walk up or hitch a lift.

2. Cool Runnings, Senga Bay/Salima- Book Now!
Best place to completely unwind from travel! Really laid back, great home cooking, wonderful hostess Samantha, right on the beach. You can get involved in some fantastic community projects here!
Travel Tip: Bus from Lilongwe to Salima Town- Minibus to Senga Bay.
The Gardens at Cool Runnings- Campsite Option
3. Mayoka Village, Nkhata Bay- Book Now!
Nkhata Bay- the place to be...We love it here and have had many nights in the bar back in our Backpacker Days! Great lakeview budget rooms or splash out and take a luxury stone cottage chalet. Cheap homecooked meals and barbeque night is always fun!
Travel Tip: Minibus from Mzuzu then local taxi or walk up from town- just ask the locals they will show you the way!
Lake View Budget Rooms- Mayoka Village
4. Bushmans Baobab- Liwonde National Park- Book Now!
This is a great budget option for Liwonde National Park. A wide range of accommodation available and you can pick and choose which activities you want to pay for. We recommend going on a half board basis with at least one safari activity per day.
Travel Tip: You can get a bus to Liwonde and then a bicycle taxi to the lodge. Or the lodge can pick you up for $5 per person- bargain!

5. Domwe Island, Lake Malawi- Book Now!
Lake Malawi- this is so worth doing! if you stay one night at Cape Maclear and then head away from the busy scene and do it Domwe Style. True Robinson Crusoe- hire a kayak and pack your tent, cook fish on the beach, watch the stars...perfect
Travel Tip: You can get a bus to Monkey Bay and then hitch into Cape Maclear- indicate you wish to hire a kayak or take the boat transfer to Domwe- kayaking is about 45 mins and you get a guide to lead the way!
