Mumbo Island Camp is named after the pristine, practically deserted tropical island on which it is built. The crystal-clear, warm waters of Lake Malawi National Park boast some 2000 species of fish. It's no wonder this region of Lake Malawi is often considered the best freshwater diving and snorkelling location on the planet.
Mumbo is the perfect hideaway for couples wanting the ultimate romantic holiday. Lying in bed listening to the waves break against the rocks and being woken with coffee and homemade biscuits before rolling out and into the crystal clear waters - idyllic!

Learn How to Dive: Visit Cape Maclear
Mumbo Island is a small island in the south of Lake Malawi, just off Cape Maclear.
Hotel Address: Southern Lakeshore, Cape Maclear
From Lilongwe take the Salima road, M14 then M5 towards Monkey Bay. Follow signs to Monkey Bay. When you reach an Engen garage on your right hand side (about 10 km before Monkey Bay) take this and it will lead you down to Cape Maclear. When you reach Chembe Village, right at the end of the dirt track, follow signs to Kayak Africa. Here you will get a boat transfer to Mumbo Island.
Alternatively- arrive the fun way! Hire a kayak from Kayak Africa and kayak to the island - 1.5 hours! Tandem kayaks also available.
Confirm boat departure times prior to booking. The track to cape Maclear from the monkey bay road gets very wet and hard to pass during rainy season - a 4 x 4 is sometimes the only way to get through. Please call before travelling if you are visiting during December and March.
