Mvuu Camp is designed to blend into its environment with guests staying in a clever mix of stone and canvas chalets and family tents. The thatched dining and lounge areas have stunning views over the river and are a good place to sit and watch the hippos basking in the shallows.

Getting there (local language)

Directions to Mvuu via the Park
From Blantyre drive to Limbe and then take the Zomba road all the way through Zomba town. If you come into Liwonde from Zomba before you reach the river there are lots of signs of the right hand side of the road, one of these says Liwonde National Park, opposite the garage. Take this road and follow the signs all the way to the park entrance, the road signs wind through the outskirts of town, then turn left onto a dirt track that leads to the park entrance. If you get at all lost between the main road and dirt track then stop and ask as it is not far!

Directions to Mvuu via Ulongwe

Go out of town towards Zomba. Continue straight through Zomba to Liwonde Town, about another 60 kilometres further on. Ignore the turning into Liwonde Town but continue over the bridge over the Shire River. Once over the bridge continue straight for about another 3 kilometres and then turn right (north) towards Monkey Bay and Mangochi-this is the first tarmac road turning to the right after the bridge and is opposite a Total Fuel Station. Follow this road for about 20 kilometres and look for a sign off to your right to Mvuu. Follow the signs for about 16 kilometres to the gates of Liwonde National Park where you will need to pay your park entry fees. Proceed into the park and after a kilometre you will arrive at the river where a staff member will meet you and radio for a boat to collect you for the 5 minute journey to Mvuu.

Getting there

Transfers can be organised by Nyasa Adventures. Or coming by road in dry season, you head to Liwonde and follow signs through the National Park to Mvuu Camp and Lodge. Alternatively, you can travel to Ulongwe and take the back road (less scenic) into the park and organise a boat transfer across the river. Perhaps the best way into the park is by boat from Liwonde. Pre arrange a boat transfer through Nyasa Adventures (minimum 2 people- $80 per person) and arrive at the camp by motorised boat. You will have wonderful wildlife along the way and may even see elephants coming down the river to drink. Be aware vehicle access to Mvuu is restricted during the raining season. Please check with Nyasa Adventures before departing by road.
